MAKING GOOD USE OF A SLOW CONNECTION

In so many countries as found in the African region, internet related activities are usually slow due to the low bandwidth served to that area; congestion can also make the available bandwidth act in a slow manner. Broadband internet speed is now provided by our various telecommunication companies to measure up with the outside world.

I want to in a nutshell, give you a hint on how to maximize you slow internet connections to get this too busy sites surfed. I am mainly talking about yahoo mail and Facebook, this are two most visited sites. The trick here is accessing the wap version on your desktop/laptop.

YAHOOMAIL and FACEBOOK: this site is used to access E-mail service under the company Yahoo. Their standard website is www.yahoo.com and that for their mail is http://www.yahoomail.com/ with a slow connection, this can be really hard to access and you need to have your mail at your desk at that time.

Use Http://wap.yahoo.com/ , you will have yahoo site in a mobile phone format (Really fast), click on the mail and log-in.

Facebook can be accessed from this link Http://m.facebook.com/

You want Google to appear in a mobile phone format, follow this link wap google with Google in this form you can access many other sites in wap form, just avoid the main site in the search list, there should be an alternative to wap pages of that site in the search list.

SEARCHING CONTENTS SPECIFICALLY ON THE WEB

Each day spent on the internet can’t barely be passed without making searches with various search engines especially the most common out there, GOOGLE. Web search engines are tools online used to comb the net for information.
When searching for information on the web, we have to be sure that a few points are borne in mind.
1.       Your KEYWORDS matter a lot.
The further your keywords are from the real meaning of what you want, the less accurate the search engine result on that point. Shorter sentences entered in a search engine will produce better result. Longer sentences entered for search on a search engine might not produce any search result at all.
2.       Try changing keywords with synonymous options in each search carried out:
Words similar in meaning to the original keyword sought for are searched also and sometimes different relevant results gotten. This will enable the search engine to go further for related materials result.
3.       Try various search engines for your exploration:
Every search engine has its unique way of gathering materials and even categories of websites/ web organizations tied to them; trying to search for your info with various search engines will make result gotten wider and this will give you the option of choice.
4.       Advanced search:

You will find this in Google search google advanced search. Google happen to be the most widely used search engine with easily accessed results. Clicking on the advanced search will make you concentrate your search for defined results. You have the option of selecting languages, document format and even number of search results per page.

5.       You can use software like limewire to search for files especially media files precisely.

Below are lists of search engines
                www.google.com

all these listed above are very popular search engines. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_search_engine for MORE. you can employ this procedure in sourcing for you projects online.

Checking SYSTEM INFORMATION on your computer

Are you having a pc and don’t know the stuff your pc is made up of, did you solely place the purchasing responsibility on someone else and can’t say for sure if you were cheated. These questions will be answered in a jiffy. Why would you want to view your computer info; you need to see this before you decide on when, why and what to upgrade your pc on, you need to know about these before you run certain software on your pc.
We can only know the spec of a pc by either looking at the individual parts of the hardware before coupling or running some programs to have it displayed on the desktop screen. Software and hardware types vary outside; you have the decision to choose and you also have limits in which your choice should not cross. In our computer generally, we measure its performance by the hardware type and below are the two most asked facts:
1. Your pc RAM memory
2. Your pc Processor speed.
Others can include-
3. Hard disk capacity
4. Operating system
5. System rating(Windows Vista)
The pc brand and model has nothing to do with what the pc is made up of as manufacturers can spread a range of configuration over one pc brand: by this I mean, a hp pavilion dv6000 can have a 1gig, 2gig or even a 3gig RAM in combination with other qualities. Out of the above listed points, the higher the RAM, processor speed and system rating, the better the pc performance.
Operating system depends on choice as existing operating seem more durable, stronger though lacking in ease and design. Modern operating systems are easier to handle and them come in funkier forms every day.
We choose hard disk according to the type of job we do with our pc. Someone storing data steadily needs a higher hard disk. I will say, the lower the hard disk, the better the pc performance. A pc with a 2gig RAM and hard disk capacity of 320gig will perform better than a pc with 1gig RAM and hard disk capacity of 250 because the RAM to hard disk ratio is smaller in the first.
To get system information,
a) Open “my computer”, right click in an empty space and select properties.

b) Click start, move cursor to my computer, right click on it and select properties.
To get advanced system information,
c) Click start, type system information in search below and select it to open.

d) Or open “run” in windows Vista by typing run in search. Select it and in the run window, type “msinfo32.exe” without quotes.
   Getting system information (Windows Xp)
Click start/programs/accessories/system tools/ system info.
You can also use help and support center
Click start, help and support center, type "get information about your computer", select "get information about your computer" in the result and you are done with all the info about your computer

USING YOUR FLASH AS EXTRA RAM

ReadyBoost   is a term common to windows operating system. It is the use of external memory or removable media to enhance the speed of your computer. Removable media commonly used is the Flash drive. Most modern flash drive support Readyboost and the mechanism involves the use of free memory in the external media to add up that of the RAM of your pc. When combined, the speed of the computer is increased to suite active task. Readyboost is used to run applications that might run fairly unstable with the standard memory of the pc for example heavy programming, video editing and other weighty applications that need higher system resources can be boost up via this practice.
Readyboost is automatically set to run when supported hardwares are inserted in a pc. You just notice a pop up window with readyboost option handy.

Alternatively, to activate Readyboost, right click on the Flash drive under “My Computer” and select “properties”, click on readyboost tab, tick “use this device” and slide line below to desired memory then OK.
N.B Readyboost works on Windows Vista.
If a flash drive is used, it is advisable to have it used EMPTY.
Most modern flash drives do accept Readyboost action.
When a flash is been used for readyboost, data can’t be stored on the flash; the flash memory is used by your pc until disabled.

To disable, follow above steps to enable except that you tick “do not use this device” under the readyboost tab.

MAKE YOUR SLOW PC A FAST ONE TODAY

Some pcs can be really hard to use due to the sluggish manner of the system. The pc might be of high specs yet still unbearably slow. I in particular cannot manage a crawling pc performance so i put this article down to as many as suffer this worrying situation. I will briefly give you reasons why your pc may act in such sluggish manner and proffer solution to that. I want to also let you know that this simple technique can boost your pc performance by 100%. This solution is a personal, tried and tested solution that you can try.
Some of the reasons why a pc can be slow (remember sluggishness varies) can be due to
1. Long time use of a pc
2. Unavailability of a maintenance utility.
3. The presence of certain antivirus.
4. Recurrent errors on your pc.
5. Carefree attitude in the use of applications.
6. Presence of viruses in the pc.
7. Too many running processes on your pc.
8. So many open tabs.
9. Running of incompatible software.
10. Too many installed applications and even more.
When I say long term use of a pc, I mean a pc that has stayed for pretty long time without having its application removed and reinstalled (FORMATTING THE SYSTEM) for say two to three years or more. If that pc is not maintained periodically in any way, that system is going to be a pain in the neck.
Maintenance utilities are applications that are specifically for solving computer software problems and restoring stability to a pc. A list of them include Tuneup utilities, Ccleaner, Register booster, Registry mechanic etc
Generally, some antivirus applications slow down your pc to a certain degree. The degree of impact on your pc of an antivirus application will give you an insight to which should be best for your system. Some antivirus are also not compatible with some pc brand, this antivirus type can cause serious damage to your system. You have to make research on what antivirus to use for a particular brand. You can do this by googling “you pc brand antivirus review” eg write in google “hp pavilion kaspersky review”; this will give you forums and blogs where people who have used that antivirus application commend or lay complain in reference to their pc brand.
Error occurs when there is abnormality in the performance of an application(s). Too many of them should be avoided and fixable ones can be fixed.
Some people don’t observe certain ethics when using the computer. In this people, the FEAR OF A PC isn’t there but rather the extremely opposite behavior. Some of this ethics can include following start menu to switch of your pc rather than just switching of the computer directly from the CPU; this can result in a crash.
When there is virus infestation, we know by the action of our system, presence of strange folders, and too much detection by a weak antivirus. These viruses depending on its category ware of the pc and the kind of sluggishness gotten from viruses can be reaching 1000%, making you to give up on your pc or even resort to formatting it. You have to choose good antivirus application; I recommend Bitdefender, Norton, Kaspersky.
Running processes and services in a computer can be seen at the taskbar i.e. the lowest left area of a default installed windows desktop. It is filled with icons. You can get running processes by clicking on the using the taskmanager. For windows, alt +Ctrl +Del keys pressed at once will open your taskmanager if it has not been disabled on your pc. You can use it to end running processes, stubborn applications that refuse to close etc NOTE: you have to be sure of a process before you end it. Some running processes govern the running of your system software like windows, if that process is stopped or disabled, windows may not be able to start. Now, what are the processes you can stop? Processes of application you installed that are unnecessary. Undue start up program can also be prevented.
The more the open tabs seen on the taskbar, the slower the pc. Tabs can come from various applications like web browsers mainly and other multi-faceted applications.
Before installing software, you have to be sure that suck software is compatible with your pc. Its compatibility is based on the type of operating system and drivers used on your pc. If an application not well suited for your pc is tried, installed or even forcefully installed, drastic issues can rise up leading to decrease in system speed and in most cases a crashed system (a system unable to boot due to alteration in its operating system).
Issue of too many applications can be handled by uninstalling pointless applications on your system at least to give it some breathing space.
Now, I will show you a practice that is going to liberate your pc.

First, download tuneup utilities tuneup site
it is a 30-day software, install and first run the “tuneup 1-click maintenance”. All errors should be corrected. Now, run the main application “Tuneup utility 2009”. Run sub applications like “tuneup registry defrag” “tuneup startup manager: prevent automatic start of unwanted applications” “Tuneup system optimizer: improve system performance” under this, select “maximum performance for visual effects” and under use of the computer, select the one that suits you more. Remember, you can revert back to formal settings for visual effects by selecting “windows default settings”. There are other vital options you can run on your own. NB. My steps for running tuneup corresponds with tuneup utilities version 2008. You should be able to decipher such setting in any later version you use.
Another simple and free software you can combine with tuneup is Piriform Ccleaner
CCleaner - Freeware Windows Optimization

It’s easy to handle.
Enjoy a much more navigational pc.

THE COMPUTER GENERAL OVERVIEW

Computers existed as early as 1200 with the name “a computer” generally referring to any mechanical device that can do work. Its job varied as its use was diversified in different fields. The earlier computers had distinct differences to our today computers especially when limiting it to microframe computers. Our desktops and laptops fall under the microcomputer category. This distinctiveness can be seen in the;

SIZES: modern computers are so portable making it accessible to individuals rather than companies and large firms as seen in those days.

SPEED: early computers could take a day to boot; this is not found in our present day computers.

SCOPE: the computer is unlimited in its functions, as you can REMEMBER so can you RENDER.

Our today mainframe is composed of constituent’s part and functions which every computer owner, computer user, and even those aspiring to work with a computer have to master. Everyone that conveys knowledge has his basis and my solid basis is THE EVICTION OF FEAR. Fear is the most restrictive character of most individuals that avoid the computer or even loose interest when the word “computer” is heard. Some people even extend this fear to the use of simple electrical devices as the mobile phone, television, kitchen appliances and this is uncalled for.

Our main subject of discussion centers on our pc (Personal Computer). It can be a desktop, laptop or a palmtop. Each standard Pc has is made up of,

Software

Hardware

These two terms get some people confused. The hardware is the solid, structural, visible and material part of the computer. All visible devices seen in a computer setup ranging from the Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor or Visual Display Unit (VDU), Central Processing Unit (CPU), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Printer and Scanner. The first four listed are compulsory for the setup of a pc with the rest been optional based on your demand. A laptop has all these listed parts integrated in one body, this makes it very portable. Below will be a brief function of the aforementioned parts.

Keyboard: this is a simple cheap device for entering data into the computer. This data can be letters, numbers and symbols. (input)

Mouse: this is just a navigational device with a cursor or pointer. We use it to perform clicks on the computer. Clicking is selecting an item or function on a computer. (input)

Monitor or Visual Display Unit (VDU): this just a device with a screen for looking at the processes as we work with a computer. The VDU also presents information in a visual style (softcopy). It is softcopy because, we can only see but cant touch.

Central Processing Unit (CPU): this is the brain of the computer. It is like a box in desktops and embedded beneath the keyboard in laptops. The CPU does the function of calculating and producing result. All other parts of the computer is by wire or wirelessly connected to the CPU and if I may say, NO PART OF THE COMPUTER CAN WORK ALONE WITHOUT THE CPU. (processing function)

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS): this device serve as temporal power supply to the computer when there is a blackout in electricity. It is a small but weighty device. This appliance is only needed by computer users in countries where we have unstable power supply.

Printer: the printer can be likened to the monitor except that the information produced is in hard copy (paper form that you can see and touch). (output)

Scanner: this device is used to get hardcopy materials into the computer as softcopies. This materials can be pictures, documents etc and its function in the computer can be for storage or transfer purpose. (input)

All the above listed hardware devices were divided into the

Input

Processing

Output

When DATA is feed into the computer through input devices, it is PROCESSED by the CPU and given out as INFORMATION in OUTPUT form.

SOFTWARES are just the invisible aspect of the computer. This can be process that lead to the reason for the behavior of the computer. We have the

System Software

Application Software

System Software consists of an environment on which computer programs can be run. Without this environment, the computer application software cannot work. Examples of a system software is the Windows 95, 98, me, 2000, xp, vista and 7, Linux, Mac by apple. Windows associated programs and applications are the most popular.

The application software simply mean to our general installable application according to our basic computer needs and functions. Applications software are numerous out there. Examples of application software include Microsoft Office for typing and presentation, Corel draw, Antivirus, Forex robots, Utilities and many more.

Hope you enjoyed this.
